An Interview with Tom from JPU Records
I met Tom on a train to Hackney after the BABYMETAL forum show last July – which was well wicked – and we’ve been in contact ever since. I figured it was about time I interviewed the wee bam, especially seeing as how I took him around Glasgow and we both got properly wrecked. Continue reading
Kai Kobayashi – I Don’t Know Where This Is Going…
(A shorter version of this article appeared in the Huffington Post)
The 3 girls of Babymetal look as if they are en route to a friend’s fancy dress party. All frills and red and black and silver. This is what I am looking at just before they go on stage to deliver, some 2 hours and 15 minutes later, one of the best concerts I can remember. Never have stage persona and real person been so mutually exclusive.
Seven Japanese Acts To Watch In 2015
I’m off to Malaysia for an epic two week adventure of stuffing myself with amazing food and getting a proper sun tan cos it’s about 90 degrees and sunny as f*ck! Yay!
But before I do I thought I’d share my thoughts on what Japanese bands are going to create a stir in 2015 because, well, because I feel like it.
Babymetal Live Review at the Brixton Academy
BABYMETAL return to the UK for another round of genre-bending, guitar shredding, unbridled mayhem in front of another sold-out London audience.

After I managed to dry out from the biblical downpour before the show I was afforded the chance to watch BABYMETAL, the Japanese J-pop/metal hybrid, from many vantage points on Saturday November 8 2014; high up in the balcony, the peripherals of the stage, on top of several other people after the infamous ‘wall of death’ collapsed during ‘Ijime, Dame, Zettai’ (‘No more bullying, never’ obviously) and I can honestly say with not a hint of irony, BABYMETAL smashed it this night. Continue reading
I Went To See BABYMETAL
As many visitors to my world famous site know, I am a huge fan of Babymetal and a horrible liar because last time I began a sentence like this I said I would never blog about them again. Well just get over your high horses ‘cos I’ve just got back from London where I totally saw them live! Continue reading
An Interview With BABYMETAL
Fellow journalist Emily, photographer Simon and I are lurking at the backstage entrance of The Forum concert hall in London waiting to interview Japanese death metal/pop music viral sensation BABYMETAL. We are hopelessly early.
Why BABYMETAL Are Going To Take Over The World
I am one minute and twenty seven seconds into the track Death by Babymetal and my brain is having trouble making sense of, well, everything on my laptop screen. I think I see three small Japanese teenage girls dancing and singing along to one of the most brutally heavy death metal riffs I have ever heard; I feel a combination of 90% confusion, 2% terror and 8% something along the lines of sdkjfdjkfhdhds. Exactly. I am in fits of giggles, shaking a bit and maybe dribbling… a bit. What I am obliquely trying to say is that I have heard nothing quite like Babymetal. Continue reading
